The day was cold

When I woke up that morning I already knew that I wouldn’t want to get out of bed. Without even opening my eyes I knew it was freezing outside, maybe even a blizzard. It seemed that right as my eyes opened the warm blanket of sleep slipped off my resting body. I rolled over to turn off the blaring alarm clock that was already annoying me. I just sat there in my bed for a couple of minutes, too tired to climb down the ladder and too scared that if I should lay back I just might drift back into my peaceful slumber.

When I felt ready, I carefully climbed down from my not-so-practical loft bed. The second my feet reached the icy marble I knew leaving my bed was a mistake. I jumped to the nearest rug and began getting ready. I tried to get dressed as fast as possible, limiting the time my bare skin had to be exposed to the chilly air of my freezing room. Apparently my family doesn’t believe in heaters! When my morning routine was finished, I still knew the hardest part was yet to come.
That long trek to school. Waking the mile and a half to the high school in the biting cold, with the wind whipping my hair all around my face, I was not looking forward to this at all. Bundled up in layers upon layers I opened the door to find myself face to face with ten inches of fresh snow. Surprisingly, the day was beautiful. The sun was shining making the fresh snow look even more beautiful than it already was. There was no ferocious wind biting at my face and fingers. Maybe today wouldn’t be so mad after all.
